Autism Assessments

The Neurodevelopment Clinic provides assessment of autism across the lifespan. Our assessment services are delivered by clinical neuropsychologists with experience and post-graduate training in the assessment and diagnosis of autism. We follow the “National Guidelines for the Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder”, and use gold standard assessment tools such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule- Second Edition (ADOS-2) and the Autism Diagnostic Interview- Revised (ADI-R). The combination of these tests is the most reliable way to evaluate the symptoms of autism spectrum in most paediatric clients. In girls and older individuals, the assessment process requires a more nuanced approach and relies more heavily on clinical interviewing.

The complete assessment process involves around 10-hours of interviews, observations, testing, scoring, interpretation, and report writing. The report can be used to support any application for funding should a diagnosis of autism be confirmed. All our assessments include a comprehensive report, which is provided within two to three weeks of the assessment date. Feedback is typically given in an additional session 2 weeks after assessment.
